THAT CHOIR is pleased to announce…
OSALO: a 24-voice SATB contemporary a cappella ensemble created for singers seeking musical challenge, precision, and artistic growth.
OSALO is a focused chamber ensemble designed for musicians who learn quickly, think independently, and are motivated to perform at a high calibre. Weekly rehearsals move at a fast pace and require consistent preparation. Singers will be motivated to engage deeply, respond thoughtfully, and contribute at a high level. Through weekly rehearsals, singers will have the opportunity to thrive in an environment that focuses on rhythmic clarity, dynamic sensitivity and strong individual accountability within a unified ensemble.
OSALO will present four performances in its inaugural 2026/2027 season, exploring contemporary choral repertoire prioritizing nuanced interpretation, refined ensemble sound, and technical precision, with storytelling at the core of every program. We will rehearse at our in-house rehearsal space weekly on Tuesday evenings.
Building upon That Choir’s ethos of storytelling through choral music, OSALO invites singers to audition that are inspired by a deep curiosity of marrying text with musicianship.
Successful applicants will be asked to prepare one folk song to be sung a cappella. Each singer may be asked to participate in a short sight reading exercise or similar musicianship activity.
We respect, champion and uplift underrepresented voices; and we strongly welcome and encourage those who self-identify as coming from underrepresented communities to submit. Access and inclusion are deeply important to us. For those who have barriers in accessing any part of our audition process as laid out, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us and we will happily work with you to create a process that is accessible.
