ABOUT THAT CHOIR
That Choir is a professional vocal ensemble dedicated to sharing powerful stories through exceptional choral music. Founded in 2008 by Artistic Director Craig Pike and now in its 19th season, the Toronto-based ensemble brings together sixteen professional singers who share a commitment to artistic excellence, meaningful storytelling, and creating memorable experiences for audiences.
As the flagship ensemble of That Arts Group, That Choir serves as both a professional performance ensemble and a source of inspiration for the organization's broader artistic community. The ensemble's work helps shape the artistic values that guide That Arts Group's choirs and programs, demonstrating the power of collaboration, curiosity, and storytelling through music. Through concerts, recordings, touring, and artistic development initiatives, That Choir helps foster a culture of excellence that extends throughout the organization.
At the heart of That Choir's work is a belief that choral music can be both artistically ambitious and deeply accessible. Each season, the ensemble presents innovative programs that explore contemporary themes, connect with diverse audiences, and showcase the expressive possibilities of the human voice. Whether performing intimate a cappella works or large-scale collaborative projects, the ensemble seeks to create performances that are emotionally engaging, thought-provoking, and relevant to modern audiences.
Supporting Canadian artists and contributing to the growth of Canada's choral landscape remain central to the ensemble's mission. Through workshops, recording projects, artist development initiatives, and performances of contemporary repertoire, That Choir actively creates opportunities for singers, composers, and arts professionals to develop their craft and share their work with new audiences.
Beyond the concert stage, That Choir is committed to building connections between artists and communities. The ensemble regularly undertakes touring, educational, and outreach activities designed to make high-quality choral music more accessible and to engage audiences who may be encountering this art form for the first time. These initiatives reflect the organization's broader belief that music has the power to bring people together, strengthen communities, and spark meaningful conversations.
Over nearly two decades, That Choir has grown from a small group of passionate singers into a nationally recognized artistic organization with a reputation for imaginative programming, compelling performances, and a deep commitment to the future of Canadian choral music. As the ensemble continues to evolve, it remains guided by a simple goal: to create meaningful musical experiences that inspire, connect, and tell stories that matter.
